NIMCURE NIMCURE is a collaborative project between Co-Creation Hub and Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR). Our goal is to assess the extent to which digital health can impact adherence to Tuberculosis (TB) treatment.
Through the development and pilot of a digital tool, we aim to support and enhance adherence to treatment by TB patients in Nigeria, thereby making the treatment of TB more manageable.
Annually, about 245,000 Nigerians die from TB
590,000 new cases occur of which 24% are HIV-positive
HIV related TB contributes largely to TB prevalence and TB deaths
Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide and is considered as one of the most important infectious diseases across most of the developing nations (WHO, 2017).
TB is curable but there has been an increase in drug resistant cases of TB which points to a lack of adherence to treatment by patients. This has in turn led to an increase in drug resistant cases of TB (CDC, 2013).
The project is scheduled to start in April 2018.
